Today the findings of the Ockenden Review into maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals will be published.
For thousands of families the outcome of this report will be devastating.
For the families who have lost babies or suffered avoidable harm, this report will represent long-overdue recognition of what they have been saying for years. Many families have been dismissed or ignored, or made to feel that their concerns were unfounded. This report for many will be the first time that answers have been provided and accountability taken.
There are now likely to be serious questions of both institutional and individual accountability that must be answered. Families deserve not only answers, but proper accountability, independent support and meaningful change. No family affected by poor maternity care should be left to navigate the search for answers on their own.
No report, however thorough, can undo what has happened. But it can and must act as a catalyst for change.
We would urge anyone who has been affected by poor maternity care at Nottingham to get in touch with us to obtain independent legal advice. Not everyone will have a medical negligence claim but we will be able to tell you whether there is something that needs to be investigated further.
We are running free legal advice clinics for anyone that has been affected by the outcome of the Ockenden report and would like to consider whether they have a claim at our Nottingham office at Waterfront House, 35 Station Street, Nottingham, NG2 3DQ on both Monday 29th June and Thursday 2nd July.
Please e-mail ellie.speirs@limesolicitors.co.uk or telephone 0121 214 1250 to book an appointment to come and have a coffee and discuss with one of our specialist medical negligence solicitors as to whether any further help can be provided.
