From 6th April 2024 new changes to employment law will be coming into play. Please read more about these below:
1. Changes to the statutory flexible working regime
This removes the current requirement for employees to have at least 26 weeks of continuous service to make a flexible working request. This means that the statutory right to request flexible working will be extended to all employees from day one of employment.
2. Paternity leave
The Paternity Leave Amendment Regulations 2024 allow paternity leave to be split into two blocks of one week at any point in the first 52 weeks after the birth or adoption of a child.
3. New right to unpaid leave for carers
The Carer’s Leave Act 2023 will give employees who have a dependant with long-term care needs a statutory right to one week of unpaid care leave per year.
4. Extra redundancy protections during pregnancy and following family-related leave
The Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act 2023 will extend the redundancy protections that apply to employees on maternity, adoption, and shared parental leave or who have recently returned to work from such leave.
Employers also need to keep in mind the changes to holiday entitlement and pay for irregular hours and part-year workers, which will be applicable in respect of holiday years beginning on or after 1 April 2024.
