Gail is a Partner in the firm’s Medical Negligence department, based at our Brighton office.

Gail works on a wide-ranging caseload, consisting of cases arising from misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis, negligent surgery, and fatal injury, amongst others. She has a particular interest in obstetric claims including footling breech deliveries, shoulder dystocia, cerebral palsy, stillbirth, and perineal injuries. Gail also specialises in Coroner’s inquests involving death arising from suspected clinical failures. She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

She is a trustee for Andy’s Angels, a local charity supporting families and children through their grief journey.

Gail has a particular reputation for client care, understanding that litigation can be a difficult process for people and that the professional relationship she builds with her clients is as important as the legal advice she provides.

Successfully negotiated settlement of a claim for a child with severe cerebral palsy following hypoxia at birth. The claim included sums for accommodation, care, case management and therapies. The damages of £7m (capitalised) made a significant difference in the quality of life of the child and her family.

Represented a couple at the inquest into the death of their baby. Antenatal appointments had failed to identify that the baby was in a breech position and he sustained catastrophic injuries during a planned homebirth. We obtained compensation for the parents but, more importantly, changes were made to save the lives of other babies. The local NHS Trust introduced presentation scans at 38 weeks for all planned homebirths and the national ambulance guidance was updated to ensure that any woman with a footling breech delivery was immediately transferred to hospital.

Negotiated settlement of £300,000 for the widow of a patient who had died as a result of pulmonary embolism following a routine hip replacement surgery performed by a private surgeon.

Obtained damages of £170,000 for a client who suffered a two year delay in gallbladder surgery resulting in metastatic cancer. We successfully argued that earlier routine cholecystectomy would have excised the tumour and cured him.

Acted for the family of a man in his 40s who suffered a methadone overdose as a result of a prescription error by his GP. We obtained early admissions of liability and obtained damages including a statutory bereavement award, funeral expenses, loss of financial dependency and loss of services.

It’s easy to find a solicitor, but not easy to find one who truly cares and shows real sensitivity. Thank you so much Gail and team.”
